2. TRANSLATIONAL NANOMEDICINE
The course is designed to gain understanding of the science and medicine required to work at the interface in drug delivery and nanomedicine as well as covering business aspects of the pharmaceutical industry.
The course should appeal to anybody who wishes to take a more multidisciplinary approach to treating disease (scientists with backgrounds in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Immunology, Physiology and Pathophysiology, Medicine and Pharmacy). Furthermore the course will deliver a full picture of pharmaceutical development from a business perspective.
This will be achieved by means of lectures, workshops and a practical to develop an advanced drug delivery system.
Main Objectives
• Understand the interacting factors in design of drug delivery systems.
• Understand biological barriers to drug delivery
• Understand pathophysiology of disease such as cancer and how this can be used to the advantageous design of delivery systems with enhanced performance over small drug molecule delivery alone
• Understand the different routes of drug delivery and targets
• Understand the interaction of biology and immunology with particulate nanomedicines.
• Understand the basis and application of theranostics in medical imaging and drug delivery.
